THE LOCAL MAGAZINE
The Objective
The Local is a magazine created for a school project that highlights small towns across Ontario through student’s perspectives. The goal of this 12-page magazine spread was to create an engaging publication that shares things to do, food to try, and stories of student success, making small towns feel approachable and exciting. This edition focuses on Collingwood, Ontario, capturing the town’s charm, culture, and community from a student perspective.
The Process
I began by defining the magazine’s tone and audience, focusing on students interested in local experiences and weekend trips. I developed the branding for The Local and structured content around food, outdoor activities, and downtown culture. Three in-magazine advertisements were also created for fictitious local businesses, including logo and ad concepts. Layout, typography, and consistency were maintained across all 12 pages to create a cohesive magazine design.
